Summerhaven Village Center will be a mixed-use, five acre community gathering place on Mount Lemmon in the Santa Catalina Mountains. Just twenty-six miles from Tucson, Arizona, this cool mountain top offers a hideaway from the Sonoran desert below.  When completed Summerhaven Village Center will welcome both visitors and residents for recreation, dinning and relaxation.

In the aftermath of the Aspen Fire in June of 2003, the one hundred year old retreat of Summerhaven lay in ruins.   Seventy-five percent of the summer residences and all of the commercial area were gone.  Concerned individuals and Pima County officials immediately began an effort to rebuild the community.  Local volunteer architects, in conjunction with the University of Arizona developed the Summerhaven Restoration Plan while an extensive community effort resulted in rezoning, bond funding for a community center and improved building codes.

The Summerhaven Land and Investment Company was formed to consolidate enough commercial property to develop a planned business/residential area, Summerhaven Village Center. Every effort was made to design a center that would do justice to the natural beauty of the mountain and reflect the history of Summerhaven.  Rustic and contemporary elements were incorporated into the plans.  Stone foundations and rough sawn lumber along with high, gabled roofs in colors that harmonize with the forest were chosen to be the architectural  elements.

The Lodge at Summerhaven Village and the Mount Lemmon Community Center will be the first buildings built.  The three-story Lodge will have guest rooms and suites, retail space, a lounge, and a second story restaurant with an outside patio overlooking Sabino Creek.  Privately owned condominiums with underground parking will also be located within the three buildings that make up the Lodge.

The Community Center will be a dominant architectural feature upon entering the Village.  It will contain public restrooms, large meeting room, office and outdoor patio space.

Architecturally compatible with the Lodge, the east side of the Village will have additional retail, restaurant and residential structures stair stepping up the hillside.  Ample parking and comfortable pathways will make this area an enjoyable place to shop and dine.  Residential space is also planned on the north and south side of Turkey Run Road in a later phase of the development.

A new, bigger bridge over Sabino Creek will reveal the longtime hidden creek.  Landscaping of the streambed with aspen and rocky mountain maple trees with strategically placed boulders will add to the natural sounds and sights for those hiking the improved creek-side trail.

Construction of Summerhaven Village Center will begin in the summer of 2005.  Questions and investment inquires may be addressed by contacting:

 Questions & Answers

Where in the planning stages is the project?  The planning process is now in progress and is nearly.  Several milestones in reaching approved development plans have been passed.  By July 2005 the plans should be approved by Pima County Board of Supervisors.  Assuming financing has been found, the development can commence as early as summer 2008.  As Pima County should have the Community Center finished in summer of 07.

When will the development be finished? The development will be accomplished in phases over the next 4 to 5 years. The first phase will  include the condominiums, a restaurant and bar and the community building.  We are now seeking names of individuals/entities that would be interested in completing the tenant improvements to lease and operate the hotel and restaurant complex. We are also seeking individuates/entities that would be interested completing the tenant improvements and lease space for shops and offices.

When will plans and prices for the Condominium units be available?  This information, including floor plans, is expected to be available in late summer.  Prices are expected to start in the low $400,000 range.
